Notifications

Vulnara tells you when a scan or an import finishes. Notifications appear live in the app's notification centre, and, if you turn them on, as browser notifications on your desktop even when Vulnara is not open. Each person has their own read and unread state.

What it is for

• Knowing a long scan has finished without watching it.
• Seeing straight away when a scan fails.
• Getting back to the result in one click.

How it works

These events create a notification for everyone in the workspace:

• a repository scan finishes or fails;
• a network scan finishes or fails;
• a git workspace import finishes.

A new notification appears in the notification centre as soon as it happens, and as a pop-up in the corner of the app. Failures show as errors and completions as successes. Up to four pop-ups show at a time, and each closes after ten seconds.

Whether a notification is read is tracked per person. Reading one does not mark it read for your colleagues.

Browser notifications

With browser notifications on, Vulnara also sends an operating system notification, such as "[my-workspace] Scan failed", with the workspace name in brackets. Clicking it opens the scan, or the repository list for an import.

Vulnara waits about ten seconds before sending it. If you already have Vulnara open and saw the notification there, it does not send the desktop one as well.

A browser that is offline receives the notification when it reconnects, for up to 24 hours.

What you can set

• Browser notifications: on or off, per browser. Use Enable browser notifications or Disable browser notifications in the notification centre, or Enable on the banner that offers it.
• Read state: open a notification, or choose Mark all read.

Read your notifications

1. Choose the notification bell. Its badge shows how many are unread, up to 99.
2. Choose a notification to open what it is about. It is marked read.
3. Choose Mark all read to clear the rest.

Unread notifications that stay fully in view for a moment are marked read by themselves. To load more, choose the button at the bottom of the list that shows older notifications.

Turn on browser notifications

1. In the notification centre, choose Enable browser notifications.
2. Allow notifications when your browser asks.

To stop them, choose Disable browser notifications. Each browser you use needs its own opt-in.

Good to know

• Email is set by alert rules: there is no personal email setting. Which events send email, and to which addresses, is decided on the workspace's alert rules.
• Alert rules are separate: an event sends email or chat messages only if an alert rule includes it, but the notifications listed above appear in the app whether or not any rule exists.
• Blocked in the browser: if you denied the permission, the toggle says so. Allow notifications for the Vulnara site in your browser settings to turn it on.
• No browser support: if your browser does not support notifications, the option is not shown.
• Without a live connection: if your network blocks WebSockets, the app checks for new notifications every 20 seconds instead.
• Stale subscriptions are cleaned up: when a browser's subscription is no longer valid, Vulnara stops sending to it.
