Plans, usage and billing
What the Free, Pay As You Go and Enterprise plans limit, how scan minutes are metered, how monthly invoices and cards work, and how to redeem a promo code.
Each workspace has a plan. The plan sets how many scan minutes, repositories, networks and alert emails the workspace can use each month. On a paid plan, Vulnara charges your saved card once a month for what you used. Everything here is on the Billing screen in Settings.

What it is for
- Seeing how much of your allowance you have used this month.
- Moving to a paid plan when the free allowance is not enough.
- Managing the card you pay with, and downloading invoices.
How it works
The plans
- Free: a monthly allowance of git scan minutes and network scan minutes, a maximum number of repositories and networks, and a monthly alert email allowance. It also limits how many scans can run at the same time.
- Pay As You Go: no limits. You pay per minute of scanning, at the per-minute prices shown on the plan card, for the minutes above the included allowance.
- Enterprise: a flat monthly fee with prepaid minutes. Choose Get in touch on the plan card.
The plan cards show the allowances and prices that apply to your workspace.
What counts
- Scan minutes: the time your scans take, in whole minutes, with git and network scans counted separately. Only scans that succeed count. A scan that fails, is cancelled or is still running uses nothing.
- Repositories: only enabled repositories count. When an import brings in more repositories than your plan allows, the extra ones are added disabled, so the import still succeeds.
- Networks: every network counts.
- Alert emails: each email an alert rule sends, counted once per recipient address. Invitations, billing and account email do not count.
Usage resets at the start of each calendar month.
What happens at a limit
On the Free plan:
- a scan is refused once the month's scan minutes are used up. This applies however the scan was started: from the web app, a schedule, the CLI, the API or CI;
- a scan is refused while the maximum number of scans are already running. Try again when one finishes;
- enabling a repository beyond the repository limit is refused;
- adding a network beyond the network limit is refused, and network scans are refused while you hold more networks than the plan allows;
- alert emails stop for the rest of the month. Webhook, Slack, Discord and Telegram alerts keep working.
When a limit stops you in the app, you are taken to Billing, which names the limit and offers a way back to what you were doing.
How you are billed
- On the first day of each month, Vulnara works out the previous month's bill and charges your active card.
- Only minutes above the included allowance are charged. Repository and network scan minutes are priced separately and added up.
- A month with nothing to pay is not charged at all.
- You get an email when a payment goes through, and when it fails.
- A failed payment is kept and retried. The invoice stays Unpaid until it is paid.
What you can set
- Plan: Upgrade to Pay As You Go, or Downgrade back to Free.
- Payment methods: add a card, choose which one is active, or delete one.
- Promo code: redeem a code to raise your limits for a period.
Do it
Check your usage
Go to Settings, then Billing. Usage this month shows five meters: Git Scan Minutes, Network Scan Minutes, Repositories, Networks and Alert emails, each against its allowance. On the Free plan, a warning appears once you pass 80 percent of an allowance.
Upgrade to Pay As You Go
- On Billing, choose Upgrade on the Pay As You Go plan.
- If the workspace has no card yet, you are asked to add one first.
API: upgradeToPaying.
Add a card
- On Billing, choose Add New Card, or Add your first card if there is none.
- Enter the First Name, Last Name, Email and the card details, and choose Add Payment Method.
The card details go straight to our payment provider. Vulnara never stores your full card number. Saving a card also puts the workspace on the paid plan.
Choose the active card or delete one
Choose Make Active on a card to have it charged at the end of each month. To remove a card, delete it and confirm. API: setDefaultPaymentMethod and deletePaymentMethod.
Download an invoice or retry a payment
- On Billing, choose View Invoices.
- The list shows each invoice's Invoice Number, Date, Total, Status and Due Date.
- Choose Download invoice to get the PDF.
- For an unpaid invoice, choose Retry Payment, select a card and confirm.
API: invoices, createInvoiceDownloadUrl and retryPayment.
Downgrade to Free
Choose Downgrade and confirm. The workspace goes back to the Free plan and its limits. API: downgradeToFree.
Redeem a promo code
- On Billing, find Promo code.
- Enter the code and choose Redeem.
The code raises the limits it names, such as scan minutes, repositories, networks or alert emails, for a set number of days from the moment you redeem it. The card then shows when the code ends. API: redeemPromoCode and promoGrants.
Good to know
- Admins manage billing: changing the plan, managing cards and retrying payments need the admin role. Anyone in the workspace can download invoices. See Teams and roles.
- Each workspace is billed on its own, with its own plan, usage and cards.
- Promo codes only raise limits: a code never lowers a limit you already have. With several codes, the highest value for each limit applies. When a code ends, you go back to the limits you had before.
- A code once per workspace: redeeming the same code twice is refused. Codes can also be withdrawn, expire, or run out of claims, and the error says which.
- Nothing to raise: on a plan with no limits, a promo code is refused and stays unclaimed.
- Only unpaid invoices can be retried. Retrying needs at least one saved card.
- Overdue invoice: if the last invoice is overdue, Billing shows an alert asking you to add a payment method.
